WESTFIELD – Even the “big kids” took advantage of Wednesday’s beautiful weather.
Westfield Pickleball took its indoor program outdoors to the Municipal Courts from celebrate the February thaw. They’ll move back indoors at the Boys & Girls Club from 8:30-11 a.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, beginning next week. Likewise, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:45-7:45 p.m., the Westfield Park and Recreation Department offers Pickleball at Highland Ave. School.
Just what is Pickleball?
Basically, it is another racquet sport (using a paddle and Wiffle Ball) which is played on half of a tennis court and with a partner as in doubles tennis. Games are about 10-15 minutes long, fast-paced, and one of the most evolving social sports you may encounter.
Pickleball is loud, laughable, friendly and a fun experience. If you can walk, you can generally play Pickleball. It is the fastest growing sport in the States and has finally made its way up north from Florida (the seniors brought it back home with them).
Look it up online or stop by the Boys & Girls Club in Westfiled to see how it is played. There are close to 60 players in town players with that number growing weekly. Pickleball is also played at the YMCA on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:45 a.m.
Join in the fun, make many new friends and get a little exercise as a benefit. The “game” moves outdoors to the Municipal Tennis Courts as the weather gets better.
