WESTFIELD – For only the second time this season, the Westfield High School girls volleyball team was on the short end of a contest.
Central toppled Westfield 25-19, 25-23, 23-25, 25-23 in an independent matchup Wednesday night. The Bombers fell to 7-2 overall, 3-0 Western Division.
Viktoria Pavlyuk (5 kills), Brigid Moriarty (21 assists), Irelis Rodriguez (9 kills, 11 digs), Stephanie Sgueglia (14 digs), Tetyana Shvyryd (3 kills, 16 digs), and Madison Robitaille (3.5 blocks, 7 digs) led Westfield.

Hogan leads Bombers
Westfield 164, Ludlow 173
Jack Hogan shot a match low 39 and David Tirrell finished with a 41 at Tekoa Country Club as the Bombers improved 6-1 overall, 5-0 league.
Soltys paces Indians
Ware 21, St. Mary’s 3
Ware’s John Soltys shot a match-best 37, and the Indians prevailed at Tekoa Country Club.
Luke Willenborg led St. Mary’s with a 41. Saints’ Manny Umana shot a 49 to take two points.

Blue Devils shut out Bombers
Northampton 3, Westfield 0
Emilia Pelis scored two goals in Northampton’s shutout of Westfield. Bombers goalie Rachel Packard made 12 saves.
Westfield entered Wednesday’s contest, having lost to Agawam 6-1 Monday. In that game, Brownies Izzy Liquori recorded a hat trick.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Granby 24, Gateway 31; Gateway 17, Hampden Charter School of Science 45
Gateway’s Ben Drenen, Jake Reynolds, and David Vasilchenko finished third, fourth, and fifth overall, respectively. Jared Small (10th overall), and Patrick Millin (11th) rounded out the Gators’ top five.
