SOUTHWICK – It is an anomaly of sorts.
No, not the Westfield Technical Academy boys soccer team’s recent MVADA championship victory, nor the St. Mary girls’ soccer team’s postseason entry after what seemed like an eternity, nor the Westfield girls volleyball team’s rise to dominance.
I’m talking about the sister act going on in Southwick.
Three sets of sisters playing for the Rams’ girls soccer team are about to embark on what they hope turns out to be a lengthy playoff run.
The McGivney family (senior Aelish, sophomore Rylin, freshman Malleigh), the Waitt family (senior Brooke, sophomore Autumn), and the Langan family (senior Karli, freshman Marissa) will team up for a West Division 3 tournament opener Friday against 12th seeded Frontier (10-5-2).
Southwick, which posted a regular season record of 11-5-1, is seeded fifth.
Elsewhere Friday, No. 7 St. Mary’s (11-5-2) travels to Veterans Stadium to take on unbeaten Ware (16-0-1) in D4 action. The Indians are the division’s two seed.
Also, Southwick girls volleyball plays at Mahar.
Westfield football travels to Minnechaug to take on the second-seeded Falcons (7-1) in a Friday night showdown at 7. The Bombers enter the D3 semifinals with a record of 6-2.
