I’m a resident on Washington Street, where there has been an abundance of road work in progress lately. Yesterday (7/15) there was a police officer berating drivers for not moving through quickly enough, understanding his hand motions exactly, etc. I could hear him from inside my house down the street saying “come on people, it’s not that hard” to drivers. I’d like to express to that police officer that people are likely trying to follow ambiguous hand motions, and are being cautious to avoid accidentally injuring a construction worker, police officer, or another driver while maneuvering through tight quarters. The attitude was unprofessional, and not the first time I’ve heard it from a Westfield officer directing traffic. We maintain higher expectations from our cashiers and restaurant servers and they aren’t even funded by our tax dollars or paid nearly as much of a wage. Thank you for your service, but please save our citizens the rude comments while we’re trying to navigate our way by you.
