WSU volleyball drops matches at invite

SPRINGFIELD – The Westfield State women’s volleyball team dropped matches to Springfield College and Skidmore on Saturday at the Springfield Invitational.
Match 1
Springfield 3, Westfield 2
The Owls were led by the stellar play of senior libero Lizzie Taylor (Medfield, Mass.), who had a team high 32 digs, and senior captain Ally Rega (Chelmsford, Mass.) who added 39 assists in the near loss to the Pride. The Owls took two of the first three sets, before dropping the fourth set and then the fifth by a narrow margin of 15-12. Sophomore Ashley Crowley (Billerica, Mass.) also mustered up a career-high 16 kills.
Camryn Bancroft led Springfield with 18 kills, while setter Sara Labadorf contributed 37 assists to the winning effort for the Pride.
Match 2
Skidmore 3, Westfield 0

The Thoroughbreds swept the Owls in three straight sets, led by senior Katy Ehnstrom who chipped in a team high 12 kills.
Senior libero Lizzie Taylor had a team high 15 digs, while setter Ally Rega netted 16 assists.
Lizzie Taylor was named to the All-Invitational team, leading the Owls with 69 digs on the weekend. Westfield drops to 0-3 on the year, but looks to get back on track on Wednesday night as they take on Bay Path for their home opener, slated for 7 p.m.
