WESTFIELD – Alan Lawrence Syriac passed away peacefully with his family by his side on October 31, 2019, after a 2 year battle with ALS. Al wore many hats during his life. He was formerly a monk, earned a 5th degree black belt in the art of jujutsu, as well as teaching the art to many students. He was also a maintenance supervisor, master locksmith, and did grounds management at the trailer park he lived at. Most importantly, Al was a minister of the gospel. He shared God’s love with everyone he met, as a Chaplain at the Salvation Army, bible studies at Armbrook Village and The Arbors of Westfield, and finally with residents and staff at the Westfield Gardens Nursing and Rehab Center, where he lived for the past year. Al is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, June Syriac, his brother Lawrence Syriac, and his stepchildren Violet White (Allan), Charles McNutt (Kimberly), and Ann Peereboom (Wayne), their children, and grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the ALS Association, or the Westfield Gardens activity department. Burial is private. A celebration of life is planned at a later date. Al’s family wishes to thank Westfield Gardens and Ascend Hospice for the excellent and loving care. Firtionadams.com
