Owls men’s basketball flies past Rams

FRAMINGHAM – Vawn Lord (West Springfield, Mass.) scored a game-high 24 points to lead the way for Westfield State as the Owls flew past Framingham State 86-73 in a MASCAC men’s basketball game at the Framingham Athletics Center on Saturday afternoon.
Lord connected on 9-of-14 from the floor and added eight rebounds and two steals.
Classmate Moody Bey (Springfield, Mass.) finished with 12 points on 3-of-5 from the floor, while fellow senior Jauch Green (Hartford, Conn.) added a double double effort of 10 points and 11 boards for the Owls. Marcus Collins (Cambridge, Mass.) finished with nine points, five boards and four assists.
Westfield State improves to 13-7 overall and 5-2 MASCAC while Framingham State slips 1-19, 0-7 MASCAC.
The Rams were paced by 18 points from senior Tyri Hampton (Fitchburg, Mass.). Hampton connected on 8-of-19 from the floor and added eight boards including four on the offensive glass.
Junior Cameren McCloud-Thomas (Springfield, Mass.) chipped in with 14 points and seven rebounds.
Leading 10-7, the Owls used a 12-2 run capped by a Lord three to open up a 22-9 lead with just over 12 minutes on the clock in the opening stanza.
The Rams closed the gap to nine on a Hampton jumper with 6:36 on the clock, but the Owls pushed the lead back to 15 before taking a 50-39 lead into the locker room at the half.
The Owls maintained the lead throughout the second half, leading by as many as 24 with just over seven minutes remaining in the game.
The Rams trimmed the deficit to 13 in the final minutes.
The Rams are back in action next Saturday afternoon when they travel to Worcester State for a MASCAC clash at 3 p.m., while the Owls host Worcester State on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. – Courtesy of Westfield State University Sports
