Theatre Group production a ‘gem’ of a show

WESTFIELD-A ‘gem of a show’ awaits area residents as the cast and crew of “She Loves Me” gears up for opening night later this month at the Westfield Woman’s Club.

“This is a heartwarming, funny show about regular people trying to find love – something we can all relate to – featuring actors and artists from all over Western Massachusetts, including Westfield,” said director Jeffrey Flood. “This is a gem of a show that isn’t produced often, so this is the chance to see it.”

Tickets for the Westfield Theatre Group production are now available online at www.westfieldtheatregroup.com. Show dates are March 20, 21, 27, 28, April 3 and 4 at 7:30 p.m., and March 28 and April 4 at 2 p.m. Ticket prices are $18 for adults and $15 for military, students and seniors 60+. The Westfield Theatre Group is a department of the Westfield Woman’s Club.

The production is set in a 1930’s perfumery with shop clerks Amalia and Georg who seldom see eye to eye. After both respond to a lonely hearts advertisement in the newspaper, they soon live for the love letters they exchange, but the identity of their admirers remains unknown.

“Aside from being able to direct a dream show I’ve wanted to direct for 30 years, I’ve really enjoyed the teamwork and camaraderie of this cast,” said Flood. “They are so supportive of each other, it makes me very proud to be working with them.”

Since Jan. 5, Flood and his team have been working with the cast and crew three nights a week. His “team” includes Liz Dion, music director; Caitlin O’Dell, choreographer; Carol Cisek, producer, and Shaina Hibert, stage manager.

Flood, who is making his directorial debut for the Westfield Theatre Group with this production, noted “She Loves Me” is a “beautiful show” with fantastic songs.

“I have worked with so many talented actors and singers in Western Massachusetts, but I can say without reservation that the caliber of talent in this show is over the top,” said Flood, adding, “the voices particularly are amazing.”
