SOUTHWICK – Southwick-Tolland-Granville Regional School District will be closed March 16-29 to slow the spread of COVID-19.
Superintendent Jennifer C. Willard sent a letter to parents Friday afternoon, stating “after many discussions with state and local public health officials, emergency management officials, and local superintendents, the Southwick-Tolland-Granville Regional School District is making the decision to close schools beginning March 16, 2020 through March 29, 2020.”
Willard said the decision was not because of any affected individuals.
“I want to stress that this closure is not in response to any immediate health concern but is a deliberate and proactive step with the goal of working together to prevent the spread and reduce the number of people who may become infected in our area,” she wrote.
During that time, Willard said she will be providing updates to district families, staff and the greater community through the district website, Facebook and Instagram accounts and automated notification system.
Students at Powder Mill School were given instructions Friday that, in case schools closed, students should read 60 minutes per day and were given writing prompts.
In addition, Willard stated that “opportunities for students to access learning resources will be made available on the district website. Additional information about these resources will be distributed to families on Monday, March 16, 2020.”
Willard said she and district administration aim to help students.
“Our goal is to support students and families to the best of our ability in these challenging times,” she wrote. “I cannot emphasize enough how difficult a decision like this is to make. We would like to thank you for your understanding and cooperation during these unprecedented times.”
