SOUTHWICK – Area families with school-aged children are set to receive a nutritional boost.
Beginning March 18, the Southwick-Tolland-Granville Regional School District will be providing Grab & Go meals for local children who need them.
Meals will be available weekdays, from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. for pick up at the Powder Mill School (main entrance) and the Granville Town Hall.
A lunch for the current day and breakfast for the following morning will be handed out at the same time.
“We definitely have folks in the community that can use this support; we are pleased to be able to do it,” said Stephen Presnal, Southwick Regional School District’s director of finance and operations. “We are going to continue … to ease the burden for families who are dealing with tough times.”
The Grab & Go meal program is a collaboration made possible by Presnal, Southwick Regional Superintendent of Schools Jennifer C. Willard, Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent Amy McLaughlin, Director of School Nutrition Matthew Lillibridge, and Secretary of School Nutrition Debra Dunn.
“We decided over the weekend with the extended closure of schools (due to the Coronavirus, or COVID-19) that we are going to start serving breakfast and lunch (indefinitely) to all families with school-aged children under 18 who live in Southwick, Tolland, or Granville as our strong commitment to feeding our kids,” Willard said.
As of Tuesday morning, a total of 75 students were signed up for the Grab & Go meal program.
