Anita Forish

WESTFIELD – Anita Nozewski Forish was born Anastasia Stanislawa Nozewski to Stanley and Mary Nozewski on February 21, 1925 in Westfield, Massachusetts. She passed away on May 16, 2020 at the age of 95. Anita graduated from Westfield High School, Class of 1942. She went on to earn her Associates Degree in Secretarial Science from Bay Path Institute in 1944. She entered the work force and worked until her 69th year with the exception of a 14 year “vacation” to be a stay-at-home Mom to raise her son. She worked at Associated Engineers, Columbia Bicycle, Camfour, H.B. Smith and retired from Mestek. She also took care of the books for her husband’s home construction business. In 1946, she married George Forish and they made their home together for 63 years in Blandford until 2009, when George passed away. Anita remained in the house until February, 2017, when she moved into Armbrook Village in Westfield, where she lived until just two months before her passing. While living in Blandford, Anita worshipped at the First Congregational Church. She was a member of and volunteered for the Church, the White Church Restoration Committee, the PTA, King’s Daughters, the Blandford Historical Society, Blandford Legion Post 356 and, finally, the Council on Aging in her later years.

Anita was one of four sisters. Her husband, George, had four brothers and two sisters. All predeceased her. On her side of the family, she is survived by her son, George, Jr., of Waukesha, Wisconsin and her niece, Cynthia Attanasio, of Spring Hill, Florida. On the Forish side of the family, she is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Tammy Mullens and her husband, Jay, John Lucas and his wife Marion, Linda Merkel, and Eric Forish.

The family would like to thank those special people who contributed to her having a good quality of life in her later years. Specifically, Lisa Lajoie and Shannon Kopatz, who provided most of her in home care for her last two years that she lived at home. We are grateful to Kathee McEwan and her staff in the Compass Memory Neighborhood at Armbrook Village in Westfield for the excellent care they gave her for the three years she lived there. Finally, we would like to thank the staff of the Summit Elder Care PACE program who were responsible for her health care while she was at Armbrook and for her final two months at East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Facility. We are also grateful to all of the relatives and friends who took the time to visit her in her last years. Old age can be lonely and we are grateful for all who thought of and cared for her.

There will be no service at this time. Anita will be interred in the hilltop cemetery in Blandford next to her husband, George. A gathering and celebration of her life will be held later this year, likely around Labor Day. Donations in Anita’s memory can be made to the First Congregational Church of Blandford, P.O. Box 65, Blandford, MA 01008, the White Church Endowment Fund, P.O. Box 35, Blandford, MA 01008 or to the charity of one’s choice.
