SOUTHWICK – Trunks are being sought for the 2nd Annual Southwick Trunk or Treat Oct. 31.
Sponsored by the Southern Tri-Town Girl Scouts, Southwick Civic Fund and Police Chief Kevin A. Bishop, the event is geared toward families in Southwick, Tolland and Granville.
Organizer Lisa Bailey, a girl scout troop leader, said the event was a huge success last year and she expects it will be again this year.
“Last year we had over 1,000 attend and it was extremely surprising,” Bailey said, “so we knew it was really needed.”
With residents still being encouraged to stay home as much as possible during the coronavirus pandemic, Bailey and the event sponsors believe it will be a welcome event for many.
“A lot of parents are hesitant to let their children trick or treat, and some communities have canceled trick or treating, so we want to make sure we have something – this is about the kids,” she said.

The Southwick Trunk or Treat will be a drive-through event this year. Bailey said no one will leave their vehicles and the vendors handing out candy will wear masks and gloves and hand out candy or trinkets through the passenger side window.
“We checked with the town to make sure this would be a safe event,” Bailey said. “Cars will be parked in every other parking space and for the larger vehicles that park sideways, we will have at least 6-feet between each vehicle.”
The event is slated for Halloween from 3-6 p.m. at Southwick Regional School. Bailey said the new location will allow for more vehicles to line up and a smooth drive through the parking lot.
Bailey said details for trunk-or-treaters will be released closer to the event, but right now vendors are needed.
“We had 35 trunks last year and our goal is to have at least that many this year,” Bailey said, noting that there is plenty of space for more trunks at the regional school.
There is no charge for trunks or for treat-seekers.
“The only cost to vendors will be the candy or trinkets given out,” Bailey said.
