SOUTHWICK – The Select Board Oct. 27 unanimously supported eliminating fines at the library.
Southwick Public Library Director Lynn Blair said the Library Trustees approved the request Oct. 13. She said the funds collected by fees are nominal and during the coronavirus pandemic, she and her fellow librarians wanted to lift fees to lift spirits.
“Ten cents here and 20 cents there doesn’t really add up, and this makes people happy,” said Blair. “They are really appreciative.”
The Board unanimously agreed and Selectman Joseph Deedy said “it’s a great thing.”
The library, 95 Feeding Hills Road, is currently back to its normal hours, however the number of patrons is limited and browsing and computer use is by appointment only.
Blair said patrons have a one-hour window per appointment. Computers are currently reserved from 2- 5 p.m. for student use on weekdays and COVID guidelines are in place.
Hours are Monday and Tuesday from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m, Wednesday 1-8 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. To reserve a time, call ahead at 413-569-1221. The library is showcasing the work of local artist Bernadette Johnson through November.
