Rotary Southwick planning Summer Concert Series for 2021

SOUTHWICK – The current climate around the country is one of doom and gloom as the coronavirus spreads exponentially, but a vision of a brighter future filled with sunshine amid a worry-free atmosphere is music to the ears of one local non-profit organization.
Despite the challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Rotary Club of Southwick continues to innovate, care for those affected, and show — even remotely – that help is possible.
Fundraising has always been a challenge for service clubs, such as this one, however Rotary Southwick is taking a positive approach, making plans for the 2021 Summer Concert Series.
“We are intending on doing these concerts,” Fundraising Chair Bob Fox said. “Hopefully, God-willing, our Covid problems subside so we can do them.”
The free Summer Concert Series, which is entering its third year at Whalley Park, is held on Wednesday evenings during the summer months of July and August from 6-9 p.m.
Due to coronavirus concerns, concert organizers canceled the 2020 Summer Concert Series, instead performing a floating concert on Congamond Lakes as part of Southwick’s 250th anniversary celebration.
Previously scheduled concerts have included the likes of the Truck Stop Troubadours, American blues musician James Montgomery, and American singer/songwriter Jeff Pitchell. Fox said Rotary Southwick has already reached out to Pitchell and Montgomery in hopes of landing a return date next summer. A country western band is also expected to perform.
“We try to keep music that appeals to everyone,” Fox said. “That’s why these concerts are so successful.”
The free Summer Concert Series is made possible due to grants received from the Southwick Cultural Council and donations made by local businesses and services, and individuals from the community. Rotary Southwick is actively seeking sponsors for 2021.
“Free concerts at Whalley Park, how can you go wrong?” Fox said.
More details will be released in the months leading up to the Summer Concert Series. If you have any questions or comments, contact Fox by phone at 413-579-4585 or email at [email protected]. Email the club at [email protected].
