WESTFIELD – The Westfield Homeless Cat Project is hosting a Quarter Auction for cats May 8 at Shaker Farms Country Club, 866 Shaker Road from 3-7 p.m.
The event includes raffles, food, a cash bar and more. The $5 admission includes two auction paddles and an afternoon of fun.
Organizer Roxanne Sprague said it’s a good time for a good cause.
“Bring your quarters and help support the cats and kittens,” said Sprague.
The Westfield Homeless Cat Project is a nonprofit, no-kill shelter that rescues cats and kittens for adoption. Sprague said founder Denise Sinico’s mission is to find a home for every cat and leave no cat behind.
“Denise doesn’t give up on them,” said Sprague, especially the sick and injured felines.
“Last year we had a cat that was chewed up by a Bobcat and Denise brought it to the Blandford Animal Hospital and they treated it for four months and now it is living the good life with its new family,” Sprague said.
Last year, COVID-19 hit the Cat Project hard. The shelter relies on donations and times were tough. Sprague said she and the other Project volunteers are gearing up for kitten season and hope the quarter auction will help support their efforts.
“We have a lot of foster families that take in the mother cats and once she has her kittens and they are spayed and neutered, they can be adopted,” Sprague said, “but it costs a lot of money.”
She said there are a lot of stray and feral cats and kittens in the community that the Cat Project traps and cares for until they can be adopted.
The Quarter Auction for Cats is one way to support the project. Donations of food, litter, cleaning supplies and monetary donations can be made at the Westfield Homeless Cat Project at 1124 East Mountain Road. Adoption hours are Thursdays, 5-7 p.m., Saturdays, 1-3 p.m. and Sundays, 1-3 p.m.
Sprague said tickets for the quarter auction will be sold at the door at Shaker Farms Saturday afternoon. The event will take place under the Shaker Farms’ pavilion.
