WESTFIELD – Paul M. Bothner (1939-2024), born September 24th, 1939 in Wisconsin, died peacefully at home on March 24th, 2024 in Westfield, Massachusetts. Paul lost his mother, Katherine and his father, Herman Bothner at a young age. He was thereafter lovingly raised by his aunt, Olga and uncle, Joseph McCulle and called them mom and dad. He loved and gained a brother Terrance McCulle, his wife Gretchen, as well as his nieces Stacy McCulle, Carr and Deborah McCulle Baird in addition to their wonderful children.
Paul was very modest and quiet about his accomplishments. He became a successful engineer and later a physician. He was one of the founders of Family Medicine, which started in 1971. While he quietly touched many lives, he also had a great desire for adventure. His inquisitive and adventurous spirit led him to become an accomplished skier, which he was able to practice throughout the world. He also learned to fly planes and did so when he could. Due to his love of the ocean, he sailed extensively on the eastern seaboard, eventually making it to Europe. One can only wonder when he had time for work. He did, however, work hard and play hard. In later life he was blessed to be able to share his adventures with his wife, Ilham. He will be remembered for his kindness, intelligence, integrity and adventures.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Ilham, brother and sister-in-law Terrence and Gretchen, nieces, Stacy and Deborah, and caregiver Netta and dog, Gunther.
