SOUTHWICK – The annual Southwick Lions Ski Sale is set for Sept. 28-29 and features a wide array of equipment for the winter sportsperson.
Lions Club member Bill Well said there will be something for everyone, all ages and ski levels.
“We will have alpine skis, cross-country skis, snowboards, boots and bindings, hats, gloves, jackets, helmets – skis for entry level to advanced and everything in between,” said Well.
The equipment offered will be a combination of new and used items with a portion of all proceeds going to the Southwick Lions Club.
Well said a new feature of this year’s sale is a trade-in option. People can bring in their modern equipment, which will be given a value by a knowledgeable volunteer, and trade it towards the purchase of new equipment.
“And if someone comes in on Friday and does not see what they’re looking for, they can let us know and we’ll see if we can get it for Saturday,” said Well.
There will also be a small selection of ice skates, including hockey skates.
Well joined the Lions Club 10 years ago with encouragement from his neighbor and he has been an active member ever since.
“I like helping the community,” said Well.
The Lions Club supports and promotes eye health. Well said in western Massachusetts the Lions Club has an “Eye Mobile” where people who are of low income or have no insurance can receive an eye exam and glasses for free.
“The Eye Mobile is similar in size to the Blood Mobile,” said Well. “It can do eye exams and screenings, check for glaucoma, check hearing and blood pressure.”
Well said a digital picture of the retina can be taken on board and is examined by an ophthalmologist.
The Lions Club donates to several organizations that perform eye related research, as well as offering scholarships.
“Last year we gave $6,000 in scholarships through Southwick-Tolland Regional High School,” said Well.
The Ski Sale is one of several annual fundraisers held by the Southwick Lions Club. Another fall fundraiser is the second annual Comedy Night, which takes place Oct. 20 at the Southwick Recreation Center. The night begins at 6:30 p.m. with a cash bar and appetizers followed by comedian Bucky Lewis at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person.
The Ski Sale takes place Sept. 28 from 6-9 p.m. and Sept. 29 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Southwick Town Hall. For more information on Lions Club events, or to join the club, visit www.southwickma.lionwap.org
