NORTHFIELD –Westfield junior Allyson Morin now knows she is one of the top two high school girls’ cross country runners in one-third of the state.
Morin finished runner-up Saturday in the Western Massachusetts Division I championships at Nothfield Mountain to advance to the state competition where she will compete against Central and Eastern Mass. competition.
The Westfield junior crossed the finish line in 19:41.51 after running on hilly terrain Saturday. Amherst’s Mel Devoney won the race with a time of 19:34.67.
The Bombers placed 11th as a team with 306 points. Amherst (31 points), Pittsfield (88), and Northampton (121) finished 1-2-3.
Other notable Westfield finishes included Michelle Morgan (62nd, 23:58.91), Jen Gresty (70th, 24:42.18), Nichole Plasse (84th, 25:50.63), Kaleigh Florek (90th, 26:14.71), Shannon Boley (93rd, 26:21.58), and Alyssa Cousineau (96th, 26:30.51).
D2 UPDATE: Gateway senior Katie Clark finished 11th in the Division II race for the girls. Clark crossed the finish line in 21:38.08. Freshman Emily McKinney was tops for Southwick in 19th (22:10.31).
