Once again, the Westfield Jr. Bombers fought hard against the Pioneer Valley Lightening at Fitzpatrick Arena on Saturday, February 2nd. The two teams continue their back and forth battle this season with PVL taking the win by two goals in the late stages of the game. Scoring for Westfield were Aidan Jubb with 4 goals and George Kimball with one goal. This win for PVL gives both teams three wins each playing against each other this season….and the battle will continue next weekend when the two teams meet one final time at Lossone Rink.
Westfield Jr. Bombers 8, Wilbraham Twin Meadows 5
February 3rd, Olympia Ice Arena
Division: Mite 2
On Sunday, February 3rd, the Westfield Jr. Bombers Mite 3 Black team took the win over WTM 8-5 at the Olympia Ice Arena. Aidan Jubb led the team to the win with six goals for double hat-tricks. Additional goals for Westfield were netted by Patrick Rae and Darrin Schnopp with one goal each. Game after game, the Westfield Mite 3 Black team has improved their defensive skills, which was evident throughout the game by the entire team, including CJ Watroba, Evan Grant and Tyler Barker. Ian Bacon did a fantastic job between the pipes defending the Westfield goal.
Westfield Jr. Bombers 15, Holy Name Stars 12
February 3rd, Amelia Park Ice Arena
Division: Mite 2
The Westfield Mite 2 team took on Holy Name on Sunday, February 3 on their home ice (Amelia Park). It was a strong passing game for the Jr. Bombers, which was apparent in the numerous assists they tallied. The game started out with Cody Collins hitting the net twice, followed by Jax Grady off an assist from Collins and then another goal by Collins off an assist from Hunter Stockseth. The Stars were tough competitors answering one for one in the first half of the game keeping net minder Brendan Morse busy between the pipes. Jacob Jarrell picked up a score on an assist from Ryan Major, as did Brody Fitzgerald on a pass from Hunter Stockseth. Gwenn Hosmer and Cameron Gainley both had two shots on goal, but were not able to sneak them past the Stars nimble goalie. As Holy Name kept the pressure on, the Jr. Bombers were able to hold the defensive line and capitalize on additional scoring opportunities with goals from: Jacob Jarrell (for a hat trick), Hunter Stockseth, Ryan Major, Jax Grady, and Cody Collins (for a hat trick on assists from Jax Grady), which left the Jr. Bombers on top.
Holy Name Black 3, Westfield Jr. Bombers 2
February 2nd , Amelia Park Ice Arena
Division: Squirt 2
Westfield matched up against the number one seated team in the league on Saturday but the boys didn’t let stats stand in the way. They came out hard in the first period. Westfield got on the board first with a rush from defenseman Joe Cigal late in the first period. Joe squeezed through the Holy Name defenders to put one in the net. The second period proved tougher for Westfield as Holy Name pinned us down in our own zone. Holy Name notched up the score with two breakaway goals in the second period. Early in the third period, Westfield proved they were not down and out. A turnover at the Holy Name blue line by Tom Whalley created the necessary opportunity. Evan Iglesias passed the puck across the front of the pocket to Tom Whalley who put it away. However, a pile up in front of goaltender Brian Daly afforded Holy Name the game-winning goal. In a last ditch effort, Westfield pulled the goalie to attempt for a tie but Holy Name stopped the assault. Goaltender Brian Daly was the difference maker in the game blocking 26 shots. Westfield was outshot by Holy Name 29-8. A rematch is scheduled for next Saturday.
