12:29 a.m.: fire, Davis Hall, Westfield State University, 577 Western Ave., a call was automatically initiated when a fire alarm was triggered, the responding deputy fire chief reports that the campus police advised him that a student had attempted to ignite a door but the fire has been extinguished, the WSU police dealt with the situation;
12:51 a.m.: found property, Franklin Street, a patrol officer reports he was flagged down by a person who stated he had recently removed a bicycle from the middle of Franklin Street in the area of the armory, the bike was transported to the station for safekeeping;
2:16 a.m.: suspicious person, Summer Street, a patrol officer reports he was advised of an intoxicated person who was attempting to drive himself away from the area, the man was deemed to be too intoxicated to care for himself and was placed in protective custody;
6:12 a.m.; motor vehicle theft, Springfield Road, a patrol officer reports he was flagged down by a resident who said that his car was stolen, the officer reports the man said that a homeless woman he had allowed to stay in his residence is gone and his keys and vehicle are also missing;
8:37 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, North Road, a supervisory officer reports an erratic operator, the vehicle was stopped and a routine check revealed that the operator was the subject of an outstanding warrant, Ronald E. Dudrick, 58, of 29 Russell Road, Huntington, was arrested on the 2012 warrant;
11:41 a.m.; larceny, West Silver Street, resident came to the station to report tax forms were stolen from her vehicle the responding officer reports the complainant said that she left copies of her completed tax returns in her unlocked car while it was parked from noon to 2 p.m. in a West Silver Street parking lot and returned to find the forms had been stolen from her unlocked car, the woman said that she is concerned since the completed tax forms include information which makes her vulnerable to identity theft;
12:36 p.m.: fire, George Street, a caller reports a resident is burning brush under a tree, the responding fire prevention officer reports he advised the resident of the pertinent city ordinances and firefighters extinguished the fire;
1:57 p.m.: breaking and entering, Tannery Road, a caller reports his parents’ home was entered, the responding officer reports the man said that he had checked the house because his parents are away and found that a basement window had been forced open and there were signs that a crawl space had been entered, the officer report the complainant said that it appears that the intruder did not enter the living area of the house and nothing is obviously missing;
2:49 p.m.: larceny, Western Circle, a resident came to the station to report that a registration plate was stolen from his trailer, the responding officer reports the man said that the plate was last known positively to be in place last October;
4:45 p.m.: breaking and entering, Meeting House Commons, 138 Main Street, a caller report he came home to find window screens and his door damaged, the responding officer reports that no entry was gained;
5:32 p.m.: fire, Aldrich Avenue, a caller reports a house fire, see story in the Friday edition of The Westfield News;
7:22 p.m.: fire, East Silver Street, a caller reports a small brush fire in the area of an East Silver Street parking lot, the responding firefighters report that employees of a nearby store were dumping snow on the smoldering remains of a recently ground tree stump;
10:12 p.m.: suspicious activity, Powder Mil Village, 126 Union St., a patrol officer reports he observed a case of beer near a vehicle and approached to also find a 12-pack of beer in the back seat where occupants were holding open bottles of beer between their legs, the beer was discarded, one of the occupants was found to be younger than the legal drinking age and was transported to her home where her mother was advised of her actions and took custody of her, three other occupants were issued citations for possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, a passenger who showed no signs of alcohol consumption was allowed the operate the vehicle away from the parking lot.
