SOUTHWICK – Phew!
The Southwick-Tolland Regional High School baseball team stopped a four-game slide, but more importantly earned a WMass D2 tourney berth with a 7-5 home win over Hampshire Tuesday.
Andrew Mitchell and Jake Goodreau clubbed key two outs in the fourth inning – Mitchell a one-run double and Goodreau a two-run single – and Brian Shiel scored the eventual game-winning run. Dan McClellan beat out a bunt on the late-inning play, forcing the opposition into an error.
Shiel scattered eight hits over six innings on the mound for Southwick. Rams’ Bob Hamel allowed one hit and struck out two in one inning of relief.
