WESTFIELD – Camfour rallied for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to knock off ITI 8-5 and stave off elimination in an Amanti Cup Babe Ruth baseball tournament game Thursday night at Bullens Field.
ITI led 4-1 through four innings with starter Austin St. Pierre on the mound, but their reliever was less fortunate.
In the fifth, Camfour staged its comeback.
Cam Niemiec, Tyler Stanton, and Connor Koziol loaded the bases with consecutive singles with Koziol’s coming on a bunt. With one out, Kyle Jacques drew a run-scoring walk. A subsequent fielder’s choice brought Camfour within one. Rory Tettemer followed with an infield single to tie the game at 4-all. A wild pitch gave them the lead, 5-4. Mitchell Longley walked with two outs to load the bases again. Another bases-loaded walk made it 6-4. Andrew Wood drilled a two-run single to cap off the seven-run outburst, effectively ending ITI’s tournament run.
ITI led early with two runs in each of the first and third innings.
In the first, Andrew Tobias, Sam St. Jean, and Liam Whitman hit back-to-back-to-back singles before Eric Hosmer hit an RBI single, and Reid Phillips plated a run with a sac-bunt to give ITI a 2-0 lead.
In the third, Nate Boulay, St. Pierre, St. Jean, and Whitman hit consecutive singles, the latter two of which each knocked in a run.
The Amanti Cup and City Cup will continue daily through Sunday at Bullens Field.
