12:21 a.m.: suspicious vehicle, Hampton Ponds Plaza, 1029 North Road, a patrol officer reports he observed a person in a vehicle parked near the school department offices, the officer reports he investigated and was told by the occupant that he was there to access a Wi-Fi connection because he does not have a connection to the Internet at his home, the officer reports the man was very cooperative and agreed that it was not a good time to be parked at the shopping center, the man left the area;
5:56 a.m.: document service, Margerie Street, an officer detailed to serve an abuse prevention order reports that he encountered another person who was the subject of an outstanding warrant, Charles E. Wojcik III, 34, of 22 Margerie St., was arrested on the warrant;
6:34 a.m.: assist citizen, Westfield Police Department, 15 Washington St., a resident came to the station to surrender shotgun shells for proper disposal, services rendered;
6:36 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Court Street, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the officer reports the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and non-renewable, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard and the operator was provided a courtesy transport to an East Silver Street address;
10:49 a.m.: breaking and entering, Sabrina Brooke Lane, a caller reports his lawn mower was stolen from his shed, the responding officer reports the caller said that a 48-inch walk-behind lawn mower valued at about $5,000 which would need a trailer to transport was stolen from his unlocked shed overnight, the larceny was referred to the Detective Bureau;
12:30 p.m.: animal complaint, Westfield Animal Shelter, 178 Apremont Way, the director of animal control operations reports a resident surrendered a long-haired Chihuahua dog reportedly found Sunday on Southwick Road;
1:32 p.m.: trespassing, Union Street, a caller from a Union Street business reports a man who is not fully clothed but is wearing a sombrero is sunbathing on the company property, the responding officer reports the man was advised of the complaint, apologized and left the area;
5:33 p.m.: suspicious persons, Tin Bridge, Ponders Hollow Road, a supervisory officer reports several vehicles and person swere found at the fire department training area near the ‘Tin Bridge’, the officer reports that a minority of the persons using the area were youths preparing to swim in the river and he dissuaded them from doing so;
7:01 p.m.: suspicious item, Grand Street, a caller reports she is alarmed by a bone on her front steps, the responding officer reports the bone is large enough to be human in origin but there is no other reason to believe there is anything out of the ordinary about it, the bone was transported to the station;
9:03 p.m.: fire, Wilson Ave., a caller reports someone may be burning trash, the responding firefighters report a resident was advised of the pertinent city ordinances and extinguished the fire;
10:40 p.m.: animal complaint, West Silver Street, a caller reports there are bats in her bathroom, the responding officer reports five bats were removed from the apartment and the resident was advised to speak with her landlord about the infestation;
11:04 p.m.: disturbance, Cranston St., a caller reports her stepdaughter became upset and broke items during a confrontation, the responding officer reports the caller said that the 16-year-old girl tried to physically move her as she was attempting to discipline the girl and a tussle ensued, a criminal complaint for assault and battery was filed against the girl.
