1:04 a.m.: recovered motor vehicle, Springfield police report the recovery of a vehicle reported to have been stolen in Westfield, the vehicle was towed and the owner was notified;
2:32 a.m.: officer wanted, Westfield State College, 577 Western Avenue, a caller from a local taxi company reports two college-aged women were transported from Jefferson Street to the campus and fled the taxi without paying their fare when they arrived, the responding officer reports that WSU police helped locate the suspects who paid their fare;
4:05 a.m.: disturbance, Bates Street, a dispatcher reports that a 911 caller gave her address and then the dispatcher heard her engage in an argument with a male party, the responding officer reports the caller said that during an altercation with her husband the man poured beer on her head and pushed her, Jose L. Masso, 36, of 16 Bates St., was arrested for assault and battery in a domestic relationship;
9:38 a.m.: disturbance, Little River Road, a caller reports his brother attacked him so he armed himself with a knife, the dispatcher advised the man to put down the knife and move to another room but the caller declined and hung up the phone, the responding officer reports both the caller and his brother said that the caller had threatened his brother with a knife but said that the actual physical encounter was limited to shoving, Louis J. Carmel , 45, of 541 Little River Road, was arrested for assault and battery in a domestic relationship and for assault with a dangerous weapon;
12:41 p.m.: recreational vehicle complaint, Sgt. T.M. Dion Way, ATV patrol officers report a dirt bike operator fled from them but was later found and stopped, the motor bike was found to be unregistered and was removed to the police impound yard;
1:13 p.m.: public service, Ingersoll Drive, a caller requests an officer respond to the neighborhood to show area children a police cruiser and explain its equipment, services rendered;
3:34 p.m.: violation of a protective order, Yale Street, a caller reports her former boyfriend has violated the “No contact” clause of a protective order, the responding officer reports he was advised that the man was the subject of an outstanding warrant but had left the area, the caller showed the officer a record of calls he had made to her phone, the officer sought the man and found him at his registered address at 4:57 p.m., the man said that he and his mother had gone to pick up his child and the baby’s mother’s new boyfriend attempted to instigate fight, the man’s mother also said that the caller’s boyfriend had been baiting her son to fight, Anthony J. Mair, 54, of 14 Mather St., was arrested for violation of an abuse prevention order and on the warrant;
4:17 p.m.: accident, Franklin Street at Elm Street, a patrol officer reports a bicyclist was stuck by a motor vehicle, the officer reports that the motorist said that he did not see the bike crossing when he turned onto Elm Street from Franklin Street, the 17-year-old cyclist said that he reached the crosswalk and observed that the lights would change in five seconds and thought that would be sufficient time to ride his bike across the street in the crosswalk, the youth was transported to Noble Hospital where he was treated and released;
5:16 p.m.: burning complaint, Miller Street, a caller reports a resident is burning a stump, the responding fire captain reports the resident extinguished the fire;
5:30 p.m.: larceny Elm Street, a clerk from an Elm Street tobacconist called to report that a female party stole two bottles of wine, the responding officer reports the clerk said that a woman was seen to conceal two bottles of wine and leave the store, the theft was confirmed by security video and the suspect was identified by a requirement that all customers scan their identification upon entering the store, an officer subsequently sought the suspect at Westfield State University where a WSU officer assisted in locating the woman so the officer could advise her that a criminal complaint had been filed and that she would receive a summons to answer the complaint at the Westfield District Court;
6:59 p.m.: suspicious person, Main Street, a caller reports an unknown man in a common hallway at his residence is loitering near his bicycle and won’t leave, the responding officer reports that the man claimed to live in “Apartment F” in the building but he found there is no such apartment, the man appeared to be confused and intoxicated and had no place to go, the man was placed in protective custody;
7:05 p.m.: burning complaint, Sunset Drive, a caller reports a large bonfire, the responding fire captain reports the resident was advised of the complaint and agreed to extinguish the fire;
7:33 a.m.: accident, North Road, an officer responding to a three-car rear end collision reports that no injuries were reported but the operator who failed to stop and caused the crash exhibited the classic symptoms of alcohol intoxication, the man failed a field sobriety test, Andrew M. Miller, 36, of 43 Forris St., West Springfield, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and following too closely;
9:02 p.m.: burning complaint, Phelps Avenue, a caller from St. Paul Street reports seeing smoke but being unable to determine it source, the responding officer reports a small fire was well contained in a fire pit and no fire services were needed.
