WESTFIELD – Senior outside Julia Warner (Lee, Mass.) had game highs of 13 kills and 16 digs, and recorded her 1,000th career kill to lead Westfield State University to a 3-1 victory (25-12, 21-25, 25-21, 25-16) over Salem State University in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women’s volleyball match late Tuesday.
Westfield improves to 3-0 in the MASCAC and 12-12 overall. Salem drops to 0-3 and 3-11.
Warner entered the match with 995 kills and reached the magic milestone early in the second game to become the third player in Westfield State history to register 1,000 career kills. Alex Shaw (Class of 2011) has 1,161 career kills and Lindsay Skaret (2006) has 1,112.
Westfield’s three seniors led the Owls to the Senior Night victory. Senior outside hitter Lindsay Rescott recorded 12 kills and eight digs and senior defensive specialist Kayleigh Shea finished with a game-high 15 digs. Junior Carolyn Cote contributed a game-high 35 assists.

Salem’s top players were Jazmin Santos (11 kills, 11 digs), MacKenzie Carpenter (30 assists), Jerika Santiago (6 service aces, 9 digs, 6 kills), and Emily Peay (6 kills, 11 digs, 4 blocks).
Westfield returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 19, when it travels to Buzzards Bay to play Mass. Maritime Academy and Pine Manor College in a tri-match.
