WESTFIELD – Two Westfield State University men’s soccer players have been named to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) All-Conference and Sportsmanship teams for the 2014 season.
Senior midfielder Nick Tavares (Suffield Academy/Ludlow, Mass.) was named to the first team and sophomore Joe Pantuosco (Somers/Somers, CT.) was selected for the sportsmanship team.
Tavares, one of the Owls captains, finished with a goal and an assist in 13 games this season. Last year he was a selection to the All-Conference second team.
This year for the first time, the conference is awarding a student-athlete from each institution selected by their peers to the MASCAC Sportsmanship Team. Those selected embody good sportsmanship on and off the field.
Pantuosco played in all 18 games for the Owls this season and totaled five points on two goals and an assist this season.
Westfield finished with a 3-12-3 overall with a record of 2-4-1 in the MASCAC. Westfield was the sixth-seed for the conference playoffs and fell to Fitchburg State in the opening round.
