12:30 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Springfield Road, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle operating at a high rate of speed on Springfield Road and stopped the SUV, the officer reports that the operator appeared to be intoxicated and failed a field sobriety test, Brittany A. Tower, 37, of 7 Tow Path Lane, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and speeding;
2:16 a.m.: suspicious persons, Southampton Road, a caller reports he arrived at a Southampton Road fast food restaurant and was accosted by two men who wanted him to take them to a different fast food restaurant, the responding officers report they found two men who fit the description provided by the caller who came to their location and positively identified the two suspects, the men apologized to the caller and returned to the motel where they are registered;
7:04 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, North Elm Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle operating without a valid inspection sticker and stopped the car, a routine check revealed that the operator’s license had been suspended, Roman Kozodoy, 20, of 19 Duggan Lane, Southampton, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and for operating a motor vehicle without a valid inspection sticker;
8:26 a.m.: larceny, Ampad Road, a DPW supervisor reports a catch basin cover has been stolen, the responding officer reports the theft of the two foot square cast iron grate is the second such incident at the same catch basin in the past two months;
9:02 a.m.: animal complaint, Springfield Road, the manager of animal control operations reports she took custody of an injured goose and transported it to the municipal animal shelter;
1:44 p.m.: larceny, Springfield Road, a caller from a Springfield Road Department store reports a shoplifter has been detained in the store, the responding officer reports the caller said that candy valued at $6.63 was recovered and the suspect was served with a ‘No trespassing’ order;
4:23 p.m.: assist citizen, Westfield Police Department, 15 Washington St., a West Road resident came to the station to surrender a rifle, a shotgun, a handgun and a license to carry firearms in compliance with a directive from the licensing authority;
6:35 p.m.: disturbance, Springfield Road, a caller from the PVTA headquarters reports a disturbance aboard a bus, the responding officer reports that he found that an unruly passenger disregarded instructions from the bus driver and slapped a fellow passenger, the victim responded by punching the suspect who was subsequently transported to Baystate Medical Center;
8:42 p.m.: animal complaint, Meadow Street, a caller from a package store reports a stray dog is in custody, the responding assistant manager of animal control operation reports the red gelded male retriever dog was transported to the municipal animal shelter;
9:24 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Southampton Road, a patrol officer requests a tow for a vehicle found to have expired registration, the car was towed to the police impound yard and the operator was provided a courtesy transport to a Buck Pond Road address.
