WESTFIELD – The Westfield American All-Stars are showing no signs of slowing down in the Little League District 2 tournament.
Westfield American ran its unbeaten streak to 3-0 with a 10-0, mercy-shortened victory over in-town rival Westfield National Monday night at Paper Mill Field.
Westfield American used timely hitting and a combined shutout on the mound from starting pitcher Tedd Dunn and reliever Josh Wagner. Each pitcher allowed just one hit and one walk. Dunn had two strikeouts. Wagner had one.
“Obviously we pitched well and played very good defense,” Westfield American manager Dick Lenfest said. “It was a total team effort.”
Westfield American jumped out to the first lead of the game, scoring on Dunn’s bases-loaded walk in the first inning.
In the second inning, Nate Pudlo made it 2-0 with an RBI single. Another bases-loaded walk gave Westfield American a 3-0 advantage. They led 5-0 after Emmett Garfield’s bloop single dropped into shallow center field for two runs.
Nick Lenfest and Pudlo smacked consecutive RBI singles in the third. A wild pitch, a fielder’s choice RBI from Garfield and a run-scoring hit from Eli Perez ended it.
Gavin Connors and Evan Grant recorded the lone base hits for Westfield National.
