WESTFIELD – There will be lots of wheeling and dealing this Saturday at Stanley Park for the fifth annual Wheel Walk.
Registration for the event will begin at 9:00 a.m., and the event will start at the Beveridge Pavilion Annex. An hour later, it will also end at the annex, around noon.
The event is set up to accommodate everyone with wheels, including wheelchairs, walkers, and strollers, and also to those without.
Stanley Park Director Bob McKean is excited for this year’s event.
“Being in our fifth year, we feel the event just keeps getting better and better,” McKean said, “A lot depends on the weather, but we feel we can continue to get bigger turnouts each year.”
McKean went on describe a scene at a recent unveiling in the park, where reconstruction paid for by funds raised from last year’s event was done, and a group of handicapped senior citizens were able to get closer to the park’s beloved ponds then they had in many years.
“It was a heartwarming scene,” McKean said, “It makes you want to continue to work to make the park even more accessible for everyone to use.”
