WESTFIELD – Thursday was Nicole Argiro’s first day as the administrative assistant at Munger Hill Elementary School. Principal Salvatore Friere said Argiro was the unanimous choice among more than two dozen applicants for the position.
“Technically, she will be the assistant to the principal and office manager,” Frieri said. “Everything that has to happen in here goes through her before it goes through anybody else. As efficient as Nicole is, that’s how efficient the school will be,” he added.
“It’s really exciting. I like being close to home and feel that hometown pride. It feels special working with neighbors,” said Argiro, who grew up here, graduating Westfield High School in 2012. She now lives in the Munger Hill area, and has two children, 3 and 6, the older of whom will be in first grade at the school this year.

“I’m excited to be the first face people will see when they come to Munger Hill,” she said.
Prior to joining the staff of Munger Hill, Argiro was secretary in an elementary school in Enfield, CT. At the same time, she served as the secretary of the Munger Hill Parent Teachers Organization as a volunteer, and as a member of the School Improvement Council.
“I invited 400 families and 100 staff members to join, and Nicole was one of eight that stepped up,” said Frieri. He said Argiro went to all the PTO events, and all of the enrichment and evening activities, “handing out fliers, setting up tables, smiling and making people feel that it’s fun to be here.”
Friere said when a staff member was out due to personal reasons last year, Argiro volunteered in addition to her work to help. “Nicole really helped to hold the office together,” he said.
“I really care about this school,” Argiro said, adding, “I absolutely plan to stay just as involved. I’m excited to put my mark on the school, and improve an already awesome school.”
