WESTFIELD – ArtWalk Westfield, a free art and cultural experience that takes each month in downtown Westfield, will feature a unique mix of local and regional artists on Saturday March 16th from 11am to 1pm in pop-up art galleries located in the Gaslight Gallery District along Elm Street between Church and School Streets.
In addition to the ArtWalk experience, several other cultural events will take place along Elm Street in downtown Westfield during and after ArtWalk. ArtWalk Westfield returns to the third Friday of each month from 5-7pm beginning in May through August.
March ArtWalk Westfield will feature several artists who are making their Westfield gallery debuts. Given the community fascination with the iconic black squirrels of Westfield, Susan Buffum and her Bicycle City Black Squirrel Art will make an encore appearance!
Susan Buffum, a Westfield-based published author and pen and ink artist, will show her Bicycle City Black Squirrel art work at Fast Feet.
Joli Hamilton, a Westfield pen, ink and watercolor artist, will make her Westfield gallery debut at Rosewood Home & Gifts.
Kamila O’Neill, a Westfield-based photographer who debuted her work at the Images Art Show on December 2018, will show her work at Two River Burrito.
Greta Redzko, specializing in oil and India ink on canvas and canvas boards, will make her Westfield debut at Mama Cakes.
Andrea Bruno, a long time furniture artists who also paints on canvas and textiles, will be the featured artists at Blended Vintage Marketplace.
All artists will be on hand at each pop up gallery location to answer questions and chat about their work. Most pieces of art work will be available for purchase.
In addition to the monthly ArtWalk Westfield event, several other cultural activities will take place on Saturday.
Dr. Edward Orgill, a Westfield composer and award-winning saxophonist who has performed around the world, most recently as featured performer and clinician at the International Society for Music Education 2018 World Conference in Baku Azerbaijan, will be performing live along with jazz guitarist Scott Sasanecki at Circuit Coffee from 12:30-2pm.
Blue Umbrella Books will host a publishing workshop called Formatting Your Book for Self-Publishing conducted by Westfield author Kelly Buffum from 1:30 to 3pm. There is a $10 fee to participate in this workshop. Immediately after the workshop, the Whip City Wordsmith writing group will meet from 3-5pm at Blue Umbrella. Local and regional authors gather to discuss upcoming works and talk about writing and publishing activities.
“ArtWalk Westfield is a free cultural event and the public is encouraged to experience some wonderful local art work and rediscover downtown Westfield,” explained Bill Westerlind, ArtWorks Westfield president. “This month we are excited to include live music and literary experiences on the same day … enjoy a cultural Saturday in downtown Westfield! Make it an afternoon of downtown exploration … dining, refreshments, shopping, art and culture all within walking distance along Elm Street.”
ArtWalk Westfield is held on the third Friday of each month from 5-7pm from May through August, featuring a different mix of artist and artistic mediums each month. During the fall and cold weather months from September through March ArtWalk takes place on the third Saturday from 11am to 1pm.
Launched in June 2018, ArtWalk Westfield is a collaborative effort between ArtWorks Westfield, host pop up gallery business owners and local artists and musicians. Working together we aspire to create a thriving art and cultural marketplace, engage the community and attract more foot traffic to the downtown area, creating a more energetic and active metropolitan space.
