Avengers strike back

WESTFIELD – Longmeadow silenced Westfield’s attack to avenge a 2015-16 boys’ ice hockey Division 3 semifinal loss Wednesday night on the Bombers’ home ice Wednesday night at Amelia Park Arena. The Lancers forged a 3-0 shutout.
Three different players scored one goal apiece for Longmeadow (Joe Letendre, Spencer Robbins, Jack Barron). Robbins also assisted on Barron’s second period goal as the Lancers built a 3-0 advantage.

Westfield junior Luis Rogers (138 pounds) followed with a pin over Brodie Fazio 35 seconds into the second period. Bombers’ freshman Nick Clauson fought hard but fell to the more experienced Matt Fazio, 14-7.
Westfield junior Jack Yvon pinned Longmeadow’s Adam Katz in a match of 160 pounders in 1:05. Senior captain Mike Malinowski made his first appearance of the season, and did not disappoint. Malinowski pinned Peter Grant in 34 seconds to keep the Bombers within striking distance.
