WESTFIELD – Baseball diamonds across the country may lie empty for now, but longtime Westfield hardball enthusiast Tim Kelleher is keeping local players swinging. His business, The Batter’s Box — Westfield’s first and longest running indoor baseball and softball facility — is offering 1-on-1 video instruction for players who don’t want to sideline their skills.
The Batter’s Box has created a “Train From Home” package designed to make it easy for baseball and softball players to continue honing their swings remotely. By ordering online (www.battersboxwestfield.com) or through their Facebook Page, a bucket of balls, a net and a tee can be picked up with no contact by The Batter’s Box, or delivered. The equipment is everything necessary to continue training with the facility’s expert instructors via 1-on-1 video instruction.
“It’s just not spring without baseball,” Kelleher said. “And hopefully, this crisis will be over sometime soon. So I wanted to make sure our local players are ready to dig in when it is — and maybe we can hear the crack of the bat throughout our community again.”
All one needs to participate is a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera; an internet connection; and a safe area with enough space to hit or throw such as a backyard, basement or garage, according to Kelleher.
“Coach K” is well-known throughout Western Massachusetts, having spent over four decades teaching baseball fundamentals to various Little League, Babe Ruth League, high school and other teams in the region. He founded The Batter’s Box in 2012, and in 2018, moved the business to its current home, which features state-of-the-art equipment and facilities.
“There’s nothing I’d like more than to be teaching our kids in-person, one-on-one again,” Kelleher said. “But for now, this is the next-best thing … and a safe alternative. Our instructors can’t wait to start checking in with their students and see how they’re progressing.”
Each 30-minute lesson is $35 for members and $45 for non-members.
The Batter’s Box “Train From Home” packages can be booked online at BattersBoxWestfield.com or by calling 413-579-5462. The Batter’s Box is located at 181 Root Road.
