WESTFIELD – Becker College scored three power-play goals in posting a 3-1 victory over Westfield State University in non-conference men’s ice hockey on Saturday evening.
Becker improves to 4-6 while Westfield drops to 6-5 after suffering its fifth straight setback.
Westfield outshot Becker, 34-28, and Nic Vidoni scored the Owls’ only goal 37 seconds into the game. Becker freshman goalie Gregg Hussey played an excellent game with 33 saves.
Becker, which committed only three penalties the entire game, scored the equalizer 14:26 into the first period on Branden Parkhouse’s power-play goal, with an assist from Gerald Owen.
After a scoreless second period, Owen scored the game-winning goal 19 seconds into the third period. Becker’s final goal was scored by David Graham just before the final buzzer sounded.
Westfield only had seven penalties in the game but four came in the third period. The key penalty was a five-minute major for hitting from behind less than a minute after Becker had taken a 2-1 lead. The Owls also played short handed in the game’s final two minutes.
