WILBRAHAM – The Westfield High School boys lacrosse team scored early in Tuesday’s road contest against Pope Francis, and again, and again, and again.
Westfield racked up a baker’s dozen, posting a convincing 13-1 win over Pope Francis at Spec Pond to run its record to 2-0.
Neither Mother Nature – nearly the entire slate of games was postponed yet again due to poor field conditions throughout Western Massachusetts – nor Pope Francis could knock Westfield off its stride.
Matt Bonsall (5 goals, 2 assists) and Cam Theriault (4 goals, 3 assists) netted seven points apiece to lead Westfield. Bombers’ Max Maggipinto finished with one goal and two assists, Dan Antonellis had one goal, and Zach Cree and Keiran Oliver collected one assist apiece.
Zach Cree, Gavin Carzello, Dalton Kinney, Reid Hannah, and Aidan Boyle played well on Westfield’s defense. Tyler Shrewsbury had a strong game at midfield for the Bombers.
Westfield goalie Alex Beauchemin (12 saves) and Nick Mee (5) combined for 17 stops.
