WESTFIELD – The game must go on.
As it stands now, high school sports for the Westfield Bombers will begin in a matter of days.
Westfield High School athletic coordinator Ryan Dunphy reached out to student-athletes and their parents and guardians recently, reassuring them that winter sports will still begin as planned in the first couple weeks of January (barring any setbacks, of course).
“With remote learning continuing through January 15th, we are still planning on starting tryouts/practices on January 11th,” Dunphy stated in a recent e-mail circulating within the school community.
While tryouts/practices for boys and girls basketball, boys and girls swimming, boys ice hockey and skiing begins Jan. 15, girls ice hockey tryouts/practices start Jan. 4.
Registration is open for winter athletics. Student-athletes are urged to sign up on Family ID.
Before students can participate in tryouts, he or she must have completed the Family ID registration, have an updated physical on file with the athletic department, as well as a completed or updated impact/baseline concussion testing.
Free physicals will be held by appointment only Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. Email Ms. Barnes at [email protected] or call the athletic office at 572-6484. Students and parents/guardians are asked to leave a message if no one picks up during vacation hours. Additional questions should be forwarded to Dunphy at [email protected].
Competitive sports will also make a return to Southwick this winter after the School Board recently voted to approve participation in MIAA/PVIAC sanctioned play, following an absence from league play for all but golf this past fall.
