WESTFIELD – The Westfield High School athletic field was set ablaze Thursday. It wasn’t the searing sun but the red-hot offense of the Westfield Bombers’ boys’ lacrosse team.
No. 4 Westfield scored the equivalent of three touchdowns and an extra point, hammering No. 13 St. Joe’s 22-1 in a Western Massachusetts Division II boys’ lacrosse opening round game.
The Bombers (14-5) put together a commanding 11-0 first-quarter lead and led 16-0 at the half.
Sam Scarfo (6 goals), Kevin Papineau (4 goals, 2 assists), and Matt Lacroix (2 goals, 4 assists) led the Westfield attack. Ryan Wilson scored three goals and Matt Chlastawa had three assists.
Rulan Davledzarov (2 goals), Luke Chlastawa (goal, assist), Anthony Sullivan (goal, assist), Jeff Bourgoyn (goal), Michael Beauregard (goal), Sean Sullivan (goal), Anthony Visconti (goal), Chris Pray (assist), Garrett Fitzgerald (assist), and Tyler Hubble (assist) also contributed for the Bombers.
Westfield goalies Jake Cupak (5 saves) and Sean Donofrio (2 saves) combined to silence St. Joe’s.
