WESTFIELD – With the dog days of summer slowly beginning to fade, the Westfield High School football team is dialing up the intensity at practice.
Westfield varsity head football coach Rob Parent and the Bombers returned to the practice field Wednesday with visions of building off of their late season success from a season ago.
Last year, Westfield stumbled to an 0-7 start with their starting quarterback, junior Mike Nihill, sidelined for much of that stretch with an injury. The Bombers regrouped though late in the season to pummel Commerce 50-14 and trounce Agawam 46-6 before losing a slugfest to Minnechaug on Thanksgiving Day 19-18.
Now, the slates have been cleared and everyone is undefeated at 0-0.
Westfield opens up the 2018 season Fri., Sept. 7 at Ludlow High School. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
