Bombers soar

WESTFIELD – Westfield scored three first-half goals, and tacked on two more in the second half en route to a 5-0 win over visiting Northampton in a high school boys’ soccer game Tuesday.
Sam Winiarski took a pass from Aidan Dunn and dribbled past the entire defense, including a fallen goaltender in the 10th minute for the first goal of the game.

Kyle Roberts scored with 15 minutes remaining in the first half. Winiarski tallied his second goal – again from Dunn – five minutes later to make it 3-0.
Four minutes into the second half, Westfield iced it. Tym Ugrin notched the fourth Westfield goal on a pass from Winiarski. Roberts scored the final Westfield goal with about 20 minutes left.
For Ugrin and Roberts, it was their first varsity goals.
“It was good to bounce back from what was an uncharacteristic, lackluster performance from us Saturday against Pittsfield,” Westfield coach Andrew Joseph said. “We were happy with our training session (Monday), and then what we did today as a result.”
Westfield will have an off day before traveling to Belchertown to take on what figures to be another solid Orioles squad.
