Bombers stretch streak again

Westfield gymnasts Taryn Hamel and Angela Bonavita helped keep the team’s win streak intact, stretching it to 70. The Bombers (131.95) finished ahead of Chicopee (121.575) and Hampshire (118.135).
Hamel and Bonavita placed 1-2 in the all-around competition, finishing with 33.5 and 33.05 points, respectively.
Hamel finished first on the vault (8.45), second on bars (7.6), beam (8.6), and floor (8.85); Bonavita topped everyone on bars (7.8) and beam (8.8), and took fourth with her floor routine (8.45).
Westfield dominated on the floor exercise, capturing first (Brendan Whitman, 9.35), second (Hamel), third (Josh Burrage, 8.7), fourth (Ashley Bates, 8.45), and sixth (Cassy Smithies, 8.35).
Whitman also placed second on vault (8.4) and Alyssa Carson was third on beam (8.35).
Westfield, whose win streak began more than five years ago, improved to 7-0 this season. The Bombers return to action Tuesday in a key meet at Minnechaug.
GOLF
St. Mary 12.5, Palmer 11.5
St. Mary (9-1-1) pulled out a thriller against Palmer (12-1).
No. 2 golfer Zach Brown scored four points with a match-low 36. Noah Parker shot a 43.
Hampshire 23, Westfield Voc-Tech 1
Jake Parsons and Connor Hall each shot a team-low 45 for Voc-Tech.
GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Amherst def. Westfield 25-13, 25-17, 25-20
Ali Johnstone (4 kills, 5 digs) and Gabby Hernandez (9 digs) led Westfield.
