GREENSBORO, N.C. – Westfield High’s track athletes put their best forward in the New Balance Nationals this past weekend, and made history in the process.
Westfield’s 4×400 relay team (Ryan Prenosil, Brenden LaForest, Sam Winarski, Gabe Piepergerdes) finished seventh in the national competition, setting a new school record with a time of 3:22.72.
The sprint medley relay team completed 1600 meters in 3:37.10, good for 32nd overall. That team featured Eric Bone, Cameron Jacque, and Prenosil and LaForest, again.
Westfield’s small group of student-athletes and their coaches raised some $2,000 to fund the trip to nationals.
Westfield’s track and field coaching staff consisted of boys’ head coach Ben Hatch, sprints coach Steve Talbot, and girls’ coach Linda Rowbotham.
