Boys & Girls Club ‘Grab & Go’ meal location moved

WESTFIELD – The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Westfield is offering free meals beginning March 17 to city students while schools are closed due to the threat of coronavirus.

Club Chief Advancement Officer Bo Sullivan said Club leaders responded quickly once schools were shut down to assist the school department in feeding students. The Club will offer a “Grab and Go” meal consisting of a nutritious sandwich, fruit, vegetable and snack.

Initially, the meals were going to be hosted at the Westfield Middle School. Sullivan said March 16 that the meals will be at the Club.

Residents can drive up and receive a bag from a person on site between 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Sullivan said in case of a mandatory quarantine he believes people can still pick up meals.

“We may need to wear masks and people would have to stay in their cars, but I think we can still offer meals,” said Sullivan.

The Tavern Restaurant has reached out to the Club to offer assistance in feeding city children. The Westfield Public Schools is also offering free meals to students through a similar Grab & Go pickup at Abner Gibbs and Franklin elementary schools.
