Calvin K. Porter

Porter Cal (3)WESTFIELD – Calvin K. Porter of Westfield, MA passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 9, 2013. Calvin was born in Cummington, MA on February 14, 1922 to Kenneth and Sarah Porter.
He moved with his family to Walnut Hill Farm in Wyben in 1937. Calvin went on to marry June Clark in 1944 and together they operated the same dairy farm and raised five children.
Calvin was predeceased by his beloved wife of 68 years, June Clark Porter; and a brother, Kenneth Porter II of Worthington, MA. Calvin leaves a brother, Gilbert Porter of Manlius, NY; a sister, Beverly (Porter) Emard of Shrewsbury, MA; a daughter, Judith (Porter) Roberts and her husband Russell of Whitsett, NC; a son, William and his wife Susan of Westfield, MA; a son, David and his wife Kathy of Westfield, MA; a daughter, Patricia (Porter) Wood and her husband Harry of West Suffield, CT, and a son, Paul and his wife Cindie of Webster Groves, MO. Calvin’s children blessed him with thirteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren who all brought him great joy.
After many decades as a successful and well known dairyman, Calvin and June enjoyed traveling, especially along the coast of Maine where Calvin was known to regularly dig and enjoy clams. Calvin was an active member of the Wyben Union Church where he served in many roles over the years.  Calvin will be remembered as a quiet and patient man who was always at the ready to help family, friends, and neighbors whenever the need arose.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 12th, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Firtion Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, MA. A celebration of Calvin’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 13th,  at 10:00 a.m. at the Wyben Union Church, 678 Montgomery Road, Westfield, MA followed by a burial service at the Middle Farms Cemetery in Westfield, MA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wyben Union Church c/o Marjorie Anderson, 472 Russellville Road, Westfield, MA 01085 or the Activity Fund at Governors Center c/o Tina Fareti, Activities Director, 66 Broad Street, Westfield, MA 01085. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Governors Center for the compassionate and loving care they provided Calvin in his final days.
