WESTFIELD – A one-time competitive grant is being offered to city child care and senior facilities to assist in the prevention of COVID.
Westfield school-aged child care facilities that serve 75 or more children and senior housing/living facilities are eligible to apply for the grant to assist with purchasing equipment for cleaning measures directly related to COVID prevention.
Mayor Donald F. Humason said the money is coming from the city’s COVID CARES funds. City Purchasing Director Tammy Tefft is taking the lead on the grant. Tefft said it is meant for new equipment.
“The intention of the grant is for new purchases, equipment that entities would normally not be able to afford without this opportunity and are not receiving grants from the Federal Government already,” said Tefft. “The funds are allocated on a first come, first serve basis and we are looking to award up to six grants of not more than $10,000 each.”
According to Tefft, the grant is solely geared toward equipment used to fight the spread of COVID such as foggers, sanitizer machines, etc. Grants are reimbursable and proof of purchase must be submitted before funds can be disbursed.
The deadline to apply is Feb.8 and full agreement must happen before Feb. 22, 2021.
“Due to the funding source, we are unfortunately a tight timeline,” said Tefft. “I am pleased that I was able to obtain the authorization to do this Subrecipient grant and I look forward to the positive effect it will have.”
