Clara B. Hartley

WESTFIELD – Clara B. Hartley, of Westfield died July 21, 2012 peacefully at Westfield Care and Rehab Center. The family would like to thank the nursing home personnel and the hospice nurses, aides, and clergy for their excellent and thoughtful care. Clara was born December 5, 1918 in Westfield, MA to Vernon and Hattie (Reinhold) Moore.
Clara worked for many years at the Hampden County Improvement League. Before retiring in 1988 she worked in the Library at Westfield State College for 25 years. She was active in local, state, and national conservation groups, 4-H, Farm youth programs here in Hampden County, Eastern Star, DAR, and helped run the Hartley family farm “Wyben Orchards.” She and her husband were very active in the Wyben Union Church and Wyben community. Besides needlepoint and crocheting which Clara loved, she and George got to travel often which they enjoyed.
She was predeceased by her husband, George S. Hartley, Sr. on October 2, 1999. She leaves her children; a son, George S. Hartley, Jr. and his wife Janet of Westfield; a daughter, Verna Hartley Seyfarth of Westfield. She leaves her beloved grandchildren, Daniel and his wife Cathy of Easthampton, Andrew and his wife Lisa of Westfield, Bret and his wife Tasha of Blandford, and Brian and his wife Kathy of Westfield. Clara was blessed with 7 great grandchildren; Caleb, Joshua, Matthew, Jacob, Kristin, Alexis, and Sophia. At Clara’s request there will be no calling hours, a private burial will be held for the family at the Middle Farms family plot.
