Phyllis M. Hinga

WESTFIELD – Phyllis Mary (Sullivan) Hinga, 87, died Saturday, July 22, 2012 at the Mont Marie Health Care Center. She was born in Springfield to the late Maurice D. and Mina (Sosville) Sullivan.
Phyllis was married for 57 years to Robert R. Hinga who died in 2002. Together they built and made their home in Westfield, taking great pride in its welcoming and creative nature. In addition to being a wonderful and loving spouse and mother, Phyllis was employed in the roles of hairdresser, bank teller and as a receptionist at Mont Marie Daycare Center. She enjoyed and excelled in many early American art forms such as tole and theorem painting, and quilting. She was a member and past vice president of the Granville Quilt Guild.
Phyllis leaves one son, Robert R. Hinga Jr. and his wife Patricia of Chicopee. Phyllis leaves a daughter, Kathleen L. Hinga, SSJ of Danbury, Connecticut. She also leaves one sister, Janet Belniak of Hamden and two deceased sisters, Patricia Rickson and Teresa Demers. She was a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends in the Firtion-Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad Street, Westfield on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. They will gather at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. with a Mass to follow at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 30 Bartlett Street, Westfield. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery, Westfield.
