WESTFIELD – Ryan Paro and Garrett Collis teamed up to throw a no-hitter on Saturday as the Westfield South 11-12 All-Stars opened up their postseason with a shortened 18-0 win over Gateway at Cross Street. The game was rescheduled after being rained out Friday night. Westfield South will next play at Amherst on Tuesday, July 2. Gateway will host Belchertown that same day.
Paro started on the mound for Westfield South and struck out two, walking only one over the first two innings. Collis relieved in the third and retired all six batters he faced, striking out three.
Westfield South jumped out to a big lead, led by Liam Webster’s three hits from the lead-off spot and four RBI from Jack Blake, two coming on a first-inning single. Mike Lurgio added a run-scoring single, Blake added a sacrifice fly and Josh Curran drove in another with a ground ball out to the right side. Collis later added a line drive single to the fence in left. Webster led Westfield South with three runs scored and an RBI.
Defensively, Scotty Bussell and Dakotah Moynihan – teammates during the regular season on Moose Lodge – stopped everything hit to the right side as they split time at second base.
