Commissioner reappointed to Municipal Light Board

WESTFIELD – Personnel Action Committee chair Cindy C. Harris submitted to the City Council on Oct. 1 the reappointment of Adam Edward Roman to the Westfield Gas & Electric Municipal Light Board for a term to expire in 2022. The reappointment passed unanimously.

Harris said Roman serves as the seventh member of the MLB, which is appointed by the City Council. The other six commissioners are elected by their wards. Roman has served for 12 years on the MLB, and called it “an honor and a privilege,” according to Harris.

Roman serves as the chairman of the finance committee, and is supported by the general manager and all of the ward commissioners. Mayor Donald F. Humason Jr. submitted his name for reappointment, she said.

Harris said Roman’s background includes serving as chief financial officer for several large health organizations; Cooley DIckinson VNA and Hospice and Jewish Geriatric Services among them.

Council President Brent B Bean II, who is the liaison to the MLB, said he had asked to put the reappointment in committee as the liaison to the Council, but that he hadn’t had a chance to speak to Roman.

“He’s been a great asset to the board,” Bean said about Roman.

Bean added that he had an issue with the transparency in the job search of the last general manager, and he is concerned about the process moving forward, given that current general manager Anthony Contrino has announced that he will retire at the end of March, 2021.

Regarding Contrino, Bean said, “”He always kept the lights on. I wish him good luck.”
