Westfield

Councilor Allie: Update

This is my first article since the election, so I wish to thank everyone who volunteered supporting candidates, those who ran for office and for the support so many showed to me. I would like to commend our City Clerk and her staff, and civic-minded volunteers for the great job on the recount. I look forward to another term serving the people of Westfield, and working with our new mayor on the challenges facing our city.
I would to thank Mayor Sullivan for providing funding for the infrared technology truck mounted unit to repair our roads. We look forward to it being operational around August.
The last thirty days has been a constant reminder for me of what are the most important things in life, the value of each life, and how fragile life can be. Beginning with Valentine’s Day where we remember those dearest to us.
First, our middle daughter Marie and her husband Jackson McCutchen are the proud parents of a perfect baby girl, Coralie, our fourth grandchild.
For those of us who grew up the sixties and the Civil Rights era, Black History month is a reminder of the cost in the struggle for freedom.
On February 20th, the Westfield Republican Committee honored Steve Pierce. Steve Pierce inspired people across the state to be involved in politics when he ran for Governor and Congress, many years ago. Steve is the reason I became involved in trying to improve government as an active participant.
Mayor Sullivan declared February 20th 2016, “Steve Pierce Day” Thank you to everyone who attended and for the kind words of retired justice Peter Velis, Representative John Velis and State Senator Don Humason. Thank you to all who made this such a great event.
Later that evening, several area churches held an event at Word of Grace Church for the Between the Bridges ministry to the homeless. The talent and testimonies were amazing.
In a matter of hours, we learned of the passing of Ken Dejordy, a young man who passed away in a tragic accident on Saturday. Robert Slozak passed away unexpectedly, and on Monday I learned that my best friend through high school had lost her battle with cancer.
Please remember to vote on Presidential Primary Day, Tuesday March 1st. Remember, Freedom is not free. It must be protected.
Dan Allie
