WESTFIELD – Cynthia Leonora Switzer passed away unexpectedly at home early in the morning of January 28th, 2024.
Born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1946, Cynthia was the daughter of Julian and Leonora Peloquin. She grew up in Windsor, Connecticut, and graduated from Windsor High School in 1964. She worked for a time as a salesperson at Russell Stover Chocolates, which is where she likely developed her sweet tooth. After that, she had a successful career in banking for more than 35 years, starting as a teller and working her way up to a leading Financial Services Provider position, for which she won numerous awards.
Cynthia was devoted to her Christian faith. She followed Christ lovingly and faithfully all of her days and enjoyed studying God’s Word. She was a longtime member of First Central Baptist Church in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts, and Pioneer Valley Baptist Church in Westfield. In 1987, she travelled as a volunteer with the Christian Medical Society to Jamaica, where they provided medical, dental, and surgical care to nearly 5,000 patients.
Cynthia cared about people, from every station and had a special heart for the down and out and those without a voice. She supported the Springfield Rescue Mission and served at the Pregnancy Care Center in Springfield for many years. She was a devoted wife to her beloved husband. They grew even closer as the years went by. She guided and supported her children in everything, always. She made the house a home and hosted most holidays for the extended family. Cynthia was personable, friendly, generous, funny, loyal, hardworking, smart, kind, and went out of her way for people. We will sorely miss all these things and more as we do already.
Cynthia is survived by her husband, Ken, of 58 years; her beloved sons Todd (and wife Annie) of Bethesda, Maryland, and Ken (and wife Sunetra) of Brooklyn, New York; her brothers Michael (Phoenix, Arizona) and Jeffrey (Newport Richey, Florida); and three grandchildren (Ciara, Katelyn, and Iyla), whom she adored.
A wake will be held on Friday, February 2nd, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. at Firtion-Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, MA 01085. A service will be held on Saturday, February 3rd, 2024, 10:30 a.m. at Pioneer Valley Baptist Church, 265 Ponders Hollow Road, Westfield, MA, followed by interment at Pine Hills Cemetery.
